The Prez Sez
August 2010
Just a few notes this month.
I want to thank everyone who came to the workday on July 31st. We finished everything we wanted to do including replacing the remaining table tops at the Rifle Range. We continue to make improvements to the club. This month we will replace the old shelter at the Utility Range, run electricity to the Pistol, Utility, and Rimfire Ranges, and place a drink machine at the Trap Range. We now have 5 active trap fields which will allow members to shoot without interfering with registered shoots and fun shoots.
Make plans to attend the club picnic on 9/12. Alan Brame is cooking his renowned pork barbeque and there will be fun events at all the ranges. This year is a little different. We are going to wait until 5:30 to eat. This should give everyone more time to come out and enjoy the club.
The next workday is Oct. 30th. If you haven't been to one yet you are running out of time this year. Come out and help keep your club looking good.
July 2010
RCGC is 25 years old!
I'm a little late writing this month but I've had almost too much to do.
The Board and all Range Directors met this month and we all caught up on what has been happening at the club. The centerfire matches are ongoing with around 20 participants each month. Likewise, the monthly rimfire and pistol matches proceed with very good turnout, especially with the above average temps we've had in June and July. There is a registered shoot and fun shoot each month at the trap range. In fact, Tom Cox added an extra shoot on the 4th weekend to accomodate shooters who wanted it. He deserves an "Attaboy" when you see him. Wayne Busch has taken over as Rifle Range Director and filled the seat on the Board vacated by Drew Clark. Be gentle with him! He'll do a fine job.
In May, the Treasurer, Jeff Thompson, was told by our liability carrier that it did not cover people who worked at the club for compensation. We were unable to obtain Workman's Comp and liability coverage for these workers so we opted to have them sign a waiver. The referees from outside the club refused to sign the waiver so the Skeet Committee cancelled the remaining registered skeet shoots this year. This is unfortunate but hopefully we can find a way to continue our very excellent skeet program in the near future.
Remington continues to take advantage of the club's recently adopted guest policy. This will produce good revenue for us this year. The club will be closed to members on Wed. 7/28 until 5PM. Remington has rented the club for the day.
The concealed carry classes have been successful and we continue to offer these to members and their immediate family members as long as there is a demand.
The club is in good shape both physically and financially. This is due to the combined efforts of a number of hard working, dedicated members. If you haven't been to a workday or a members' meeting you are missing part of what it means to be a RCGC member. Get involved. Pitch in. Help out. The club needs everyone's participation.
As always, I invite your comments and suggestions. Let me know what you think.
