RULES AND POLICIES

Membership ID Cards must be worn at all times when you are on club property.

GENERAL

Newsletter - The club newsletter is available on the club website. Due to the increased cost of publication and mailing, newsletters will be sent to all members  twice per year. It is the official publication of the Club and all rules changes, match schedules, range closings, etc. will appear in the newsletter. Please contact Jim or Lil Alverson at 336-342-5575 or lalverson@triad.rr.com with news, for sale items and sugggestions.

Changes in Address, etc.  -  If you have any change in home address or phone number, contact the club secretary as soon as possible, because the secretary maintains the Club membership database. You can phone, e-mail, or write the secretary.

The club is posted with a 10 mph speed limit. You are asked to observe this speed limit not only for safety but to keep down dust. No one wants their gun or case covered with dust.

Guests must be accompanied by a member at all times. There is no specified limit on the number of guests you may have but be reasonable. After three guest visits, excluding organized shoots, a person is expected to join the club before returning.

Trash receptacles are located at each range and a dumpster for bulky items is located near the trap fields. You are required to pick up spent brass and hulls and to remove your targets from the target boards when you leave.

Alcohol may not be openly displayed. It is not to be consumed until you have safely stored your firearms. Any member or guest who becomes intoxicated on the property may incur suspension or expulsion from the club. Illegal drugs are expressly prohibited. Do not come to the club under the influence of these substances.

No smoking or use of tobacco products inside buildings. Guns may not be cleaned inside.

No hunting of any kind on club property.

ATVs are not to be used on club property.

All pets on gun club property must be on a leash and under control at all times.  If they become a distraction to shooters they must be removed from the property.

There are first aid kits in the buildings at each range.

These rules and those posted on the ranges are for the safety and welfare of everyone. Rules violations may result in your suspension or expulsion from the club. RCGC is a community of people with common interests and everyone is equal. As a member you are charged with obeying and enforcing the club rules. If you see a violation you are encouraged to bring it to the person’s attention. If you are not comfortable confronting someone directly, try to get their name and vehicle description and report this to a club officer, director, or range director. The problem will be addressed. RCGC does not have full time supervision of the ranges so it is up to every member to help maintain safety and proper firearms handling.

RANGE RULES

All firearms must remain unloaded with the action open at all times when you are not actually shooting. This applies to moving firearms to and from the ranges. If your firearm is not designed so the action stays open, you must devise a way to do so. Others must be able to see that your firearm can not be fired. Do not step onto any range unless you are wearing proper eye and ear protection. This applies to observers, referees, and range assistants as well as shooters. Eyewear should be shatterproof.

No fully automatic weapons are allowed on any range.

Rifle & Pistol Ranges  - No centerfire rifles based on the .50 caliber BMG are allowed on any range. On the centerfire and rimfire ranges you may shoot only from the designated firing line. When a shooter needs to go downrange in front of the firing line for any reason, all shooters must open the action on their rifle. When someone is downrange in front of the firing line, no one may handle their rifle. The centerfire range has a string of red lights which should be turned on when someone goes downrange and turned off when it is safe to shoot. Shooting may resume only when everyone is safely behind the firing line.

The Rimfire Range is only for rimfire rifles and pistols. If you are seen using a centerfire weapon on the rimfire range, you may be expelled from the club. The rimfire range will be closed during matches at the centerfire and pistol pits.

Do not place targets at any interim distance on the rifle and pistol ranges. Only shoot at targets attached to the supplied backer boards. Attach targets to the boards with staples, thumb tacks, push pins, or tape. Avoid placing targets over the supporting frames to prolong their use. The target boards are arranged at specific heights and distances for safety. Failure to observe this rule can cause dangerous ricochets and is considered a serious safety infraction. Remove your used targets and pick up your brass. Receptacles are provided for disposal of these items. You may take any discarded brass you find.

The pistol pits have some metal targets which are for centerfire pistols only.  .22s ricochet wildly off these plates and are not to be fired at them. Failure to observe this rule may cause you to be expelled from the club. Intentionally firing at the concrete divider in the pistol pits may cause you to be expelled from the club. Pistol shooters be aware of other shooters nearby. Be careful of your muzzle direction. Be careful when reloading and don’t ever point your pistol at others.

There is a handicapped parking area beside the benches at the centerfire range. You must display a state issued handicap parking permit to park here. Others may use this area to unload rifles and gear but then must move their vehicle to the upper parking lot.

Multi-Use Pit - The multi-use pit is a short distance range. It has target boards at 25 and 50 yards. It is for sighting in scoped rifles, open sight rifles, black powder firearms, shotgun slugs, and other firearm configurations which are too powerful to shoot in the pistol pits. There are four wooden benches under a shelter for shooting from a rest. No shooter may go downrange to shoot if someone is shooting from one of these benches. This range has just been constructed and has not been used enough to have many usage rules. There will be additional policy made when it becomes necessary.

Trap & Skeet Fields - Trap and skeet shooters are not to load their shotguns unless they are on a designated shooting station. Actions always remain open otherwise; even when walking to and from the field. Never load more than 2 shells at one time. It is common practice to load 2 shells a when shooting skeet. Trap shooters should not load 2 shells unless they are shooting doubles.

Skeet shooters are not allowed to shoot at targets that are out of bounds. At Station #8 the target will pass you if you don’t break it quickly. You are not to turn around and shoot at it after it has passed you. This is a serious safety infraction.

Unlike sporting clays shooters, trap and skeet shooters are allowed to shoot at a target only once.

A round of trap or skeet is 25 targets regardless of where you shoot them. You owe for a round each time you shoot at 25 targets. If you shoot trap doubles that is 50 targets and you owe for two rounds.

Ammunition for clay targets: You are advised to shoot target ammo at trap and skeet. Most hunting loads are too heavy and recoil can be a problem. Trap is best shot with #7 ½ or #8. Skeet is usually shot with #9 but #8 is often used. Shot larger than 7 ½ is not really effective for trap and skeet and is discouraged on these ranges.

When you finish shooting trap/skeet: Return the release to the trap house. Decock  the throwing arm on each trap. This turns the skeet machines off. You will also have to turn the pump off on the trap machines. Unplug the traps. Refill the carousel for the next shooter. Break down the target boxes and take them to the dumpster near the trap fields or to the burner near the skeet fields. Pick up your hulls. Fill in the log book at the field where you were shooting. Deposit your payment in the drop box at that field or remember to mail your payment to the club PO Box and mark it either trap or skeet. Pay for trap rounds and skeet rounds separately. Do not combine payment for both ranges. Trap and skeet fees are kept separate for club accounting. You, your spouse, and dependents pay club rate for clay targets; guests are charged more.     NOTE:  Members will be charged for their non-paying guests' rounds at the current guest rate.

Patterning boards are available on both the trap and the skeet fields.

Annual dues must be paid by December 31st each year.
